My interview with florist Thierry Boutémy has just been published in the special Men’s issue of La Libre Essentielle in Belgium. Guest-edited by Etienne Russo, the incredibly energetic visionary behind many of the most creative fashion shows and luxury houses (Chanel, Dries Van Noten, Hermès, to name a few) the issue is almost entirely black and white.

The interview itself is in French, and outlines Thierry’s personal vision on the sex of flowers. He and photographer Karel Fonteyne spent a morning splicing and twisting flower parts, creating provocative new shapes:

Thierry is actually quite romantic–when I asked him if he believes that flowers are an idealisation of love and sexuality, he responded: “In any case, flowers need a lot of care and attention. If you are not careful, they die faster than you could ever imagine…”
