And if we decided that 2009 was not the end of an era, but the beginning of something new and, ultimately, better? 

Following a few months of letting the horticulturalist lie dormant for winter, it is time to begin blooming anew. I will start with something that seems frivolous, though it is anything but. Couture is a celebration of the exquisitely made, of the hand-crafted, of the imagination made material.

Karl Lagerfeld wanted to start this couture season with “a clean sheet of paper”: an all-white collection of amazing lace and perfectly cut silk, situated in a magical season somewhere between snow and spring. The ultimate detail was the floral hat: hairdresser Kamo took scissors to paper, creating headdresses of white roses, camellias and leaves, reminiscent of porcelain figurines but also of Toord Boontje’s Little Wild Garden of Love…
